Current clinical guidelines on laser therapy for treating acne scars in adults:

If an adult has severe acne-related scarring that persists for a year after their acne has cleared, referral to a consultant dermatologist-led team with expertise in scarring management is recommended.

In such a specialist setting, consideration may be given to CO2 laser treatment, either alone or following a session of punch elevation, as a treatment option for acne scars.

Alternatively, glycolic acid peel may also be considered in this context.

This approach is advised to be undertaken within a consultant dermatologist-led team setting due to the complexity and need for specialist expertise.
