First-line treatments for managing acute attacks of calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), colchicine, and short courses of oral corticosteroids.

These treatments are recommended taking into account the person's comorbidities, co-prescriptions, and preferences.

If NSAIDs and colchicine are contraindicated, not tolerated, or ineffective, intra-articular or intramuscular corticosteroid injections may be considered.
