Patients with suspected renal artery stenosis should be referred for specialist assessment . This applies to both adults, and children and young people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) .

Renal artery stenosis should be suspected if there is a reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 30% or more within 3 months of starting or increasing the dose of a renin-angiotensin system antagonist ,.
