Consider referring a patient with Chikungunya virus infection to a specialist for further evaluation or management if they have severe or persistent symptoms, particularly severe arthropathy, or if there is diagnostic uncertainty.

Specialist referral may also be appropriate if the patient is at increased risk of complications or if there is a need for further laboratory investigations to exclude other causes or confirm diagnosis.

In such cases, referral to a rheumatologist or infectious diseases specialist is advisable for comprehensive assessment and management.
