Recommended antibiotic treatment for scarlet fever: The first-line antibiotic is phenoxymethylpenicillin (penicillin V).

Duration of administration: A 10-day course is recommended.

Alternatives for penicillin allergy: For birth to 6 months, clarithromycin for 10 days; for non-pregnant adults and children aged 6 months to 17 years, azithromycin for 5 days or clarithromycin for 10 days; for pregnant or postpartum women (within 28 days of childbirth), erythromycin for 10 days.
