Refer patients using a suspected cancer pathway referral within 2 weeks if they have a skin lesion that raises suspicion of squamous cell carcinoma, as indicated by features such as ulceration, induration, or a suspicious appearance .

Consider routine referral for skin lesions that raise suspicion of basal cell carcinoma, characterized by features such as ulcer with a raised rolled edge, prominent fine blood vessels, or a pearly or waxy nodule .

Only consider a suspected cancer pathway referral for basal cell carcinoma if there is particular concern that delay may significantly impact, due to factors like lesion site or size .
