Patients with dry AMD should be advised to self-monitor their condition and report any changes in vision to their eye-care professional as soon as possible ,.

Routine monitoring in primary care is not recommended; instead, patients should continue attending routine sight tests with their community optometrist .

For those with late dry AMD, ongoing monitoring with optical coherence tomography (OCT) is recommended for both eyes, especially if there is a decline in visual acuity or reported decline in visual function .

If visual symptoms worsen or new symptoms develop, patients should be referred promptly for specialist assessment, including OCT and fundus examination, to evaluate for progression or development of wet AMD .
