When advising patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis on lifestyle modifications to help manage their condition, you should include the following points:
- Skin Care: Advise patients to use gentle, soap-free washes on the skin and affected areas when washing, and to apply a light moisturiser after washing NICE CKS. If they wear makeup, they should use products that do not block the pores and are non-comedogenic NICE CKS.
- Diet: Inform patients that research suggests fruit consumption may help to reduce flares of seborrhoeic dermatitis NICE CKS.
- Stress Management: Explain that stress may exacerbate seborrhoeic dermatitis and lead to flares NICE CKS. Patients can be signposted to sources of patient information, such as the British Association of Dermatologists leaflet on Seborrhoeic dermatitis or the National Eczema Association website NICE CKS.
- Eyelid Hygiene: If the eyelids are involved, advise patients about daily hygiene measures NICE CKS. For more detailed information on eyelid hygiene techniques, refer to the CKS topic on Blepharitis NICE CKS.
