Advise a balanced diet that includes foods with a high fibre content such as fruit, vegetables, high-fibre bread, baked beans, and wholegrain breakfast cereals, but do not recommend unprocessed bran, which can cause bloating and flatulence and reduce micronutrient absorption .

Ensure children consume adequate fluid intake, tailored to their age and activity level, to help maintain normal bowel function .

Encourage normal daily physical activity suited to the child's stage of development, as part of ongoing management .

Provide children and their families with written information about diet and fluid intake, and advise on maintaining a healthy, balanced diet .
