The recommended first-line pharmacological treatment for managing Type 2 Diabetes in adults is standard-release metformin.

If metformin is contraindicated or not tolerated, consider an SGLT2 inhibitor with proven cardiovascular benefit, especially in patients with cardiovascular disease or high risk of it.

When starting dual therapy with metformin and an SGLT2 inhibitor, introduce the drugs sequentially, starting with metformin and checking tolerability.
