A 38-year-old man is treated for severe P. falciparum malaria with IV artesunate. On day 5, his parasitaemia has cleared but he develops progressive jaundice with unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia, raised LDH, low haptoglobin, and a positive direct Coombs test. His reticulocyte count is 8%. What complication has developed and when should he be monitored post-discharge?
