A 35-year-old woman presents with acute onset left-sided facial weakness over 24 hours. She cannot close her left eye, has drooping of the mouth and impaired forehead wrinkling on the left. There is no limb weakness or speech disturbance. Examination is otherwise normal. What is the most appropriate initial management?
