Most clinicians don’t need more content; they need better filtration. This routine is a repeatable approach to staying current using point-of-care resources without turning it into a second job.
The monthly routine (15 minutes)
1
Step 1 — Pick 3 domains you actually touch weekly
Choose areas you repeatedly encounter. Relevance beats breadth.
2
Step 2 — Pull updates/insights only for those domains
Avoid general feeds. If it’s not in your top 3 domains, it doesn’t exist this month.
3
Step 3 — Triage into: ‘actionable now’ vs ‘nice to know’
Actionable means it changes your workflow, decision structure, or safety checks. Everything else is optional.
4
Step 4 — Convert ‘actionable now’ into one habit change
One change per month compounds. Ten changes per month collapses.
5
Step 5 — Capture a one-line reflection (optional)
If you want CPD evidence: ‘What changed, and how will I apply it?’ Keep it minimal.
6
Step 6 — Share one insight with a colleague
If you’re in a team, one high-quality share beats silent consumption.
7
Step 7 — Cull your saved list
Delete what you didn’t use. Keep the tool lean.
The compound effect
If you improve your workflow by 1% per month, you become meaningfully faster and safer over a year—without feeling ‘busy’ doing it.
